Formulator's guide

Mineral vs Chemical sunscreen — which to source?

The choice of UV filter system defines the product's positioning, target consumer, and regulatory pathway. This guide helps private label buyers make the right formulation decision.

Chemical Sunscreen
Organic UV-absorbing filters
Mechanism
Absorbs UV radiation and converts it to heat energy — works below the skin surface
Texture
Lightweight, invisible finish — no white cast. Better cosmetic elegance
Best for
Daily wear, tinted formulas, darker skin tones, SPF sprays and gels
Reef considerations
Some filters (oxybenzone) regulated in reef-sensitive markets
Our products
SPF 30, Face Defense SPF 50, SPF Lotion/Spray, Tinted Moisturizer
vs
Mineral Sunscreen
Physical UV-reflecting filters
Mechanism
Zinc Oxide & TiO₂ sit on skin surface and physically reflect UV radiation away
Texture
Heavier texture, historically white cast — modern nano/micro-particle tech improves this significantly
Best for
Sensitive & baby skin, reef-safe positioning, clean beauty brands, post-procedure use
Reef considerations
Non-nano ZnO is reef-safe — ideal for Hawaii, EU reef-sensitive markets
Our products
Invisible Mineral Sunscreen, Sunscreen Sticks, Relief Sun Rice Probiotics

Why consumers choose premium broad-spectrum sunscreen

Broad-Spectrum UVA/UVB
Protection against both UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) radiation — the minimum consumers now expect.
🎨
No White Cast
Modern invisible mineral and chemical filter systems that work across all skin tones without leaving residue.
💧
Hydrating Formula
SPF products that moisturise as they protect — eliminating the need for a separate moisturiser step.
🌊
Reef-Safe Options
Non-nano Zinc Oxide formulations safe for coral reef ecosystems — increasingly demanded in global markets.
Anti-Ageing SPF
UV protection as the most effective anti-ageing intervention — combined with antioxidants for enhanced results.

Common questions

Everything private label buyers ask about sunscreen manufacturing

Our formulation and export team responds to all sunscreen inquiries within one business day.

What SPF levels does AG Organica manufacture?

We manufacture sunscreen products with SPF 25, SPF 30, SPF 30++, SPF 35, SPF 50, and SPF 50+ grades. Both chemical and mineral UV filter systems are available. For private label clients who need a specific SPF not in our standard range, we also develop custom formulations to achieve any target SPF value.

Do you offer private label sunscreen manufacturing?

Yes. We are a leading GMP-certified private label sunscreen manufacturer in India. Our service covers the complete chain: formulation selection or custom development, SPF and stability testing, dermatologist review, branded packaging design and printing, GMP batch manufacturing, and export-ready dispatch. We have served brands across 50+ countries.

What is the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreens use physical UV filters — Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide — that sit on the skin surface and physically reflect UV radiation. They are reef-safe and suitable for sensitive skin. Chemical sunscreens use organic UV-absorbing compounds (such as Tinosorb, Octinoxate, Homosalate) that convert UV to heat. Chemical filters provide better cosmetic elegance and no white cast. We manufacture both systems and hybrid formulations.

How is SPF tested and what documentation do you provide?

SPF is tested using in-vitro methods (ISO 24443) and in-vivo methods (ISO 24444) at NABL-accredited labs. We provide the full SPF test report, UVAPF test data (for broad-spectrum claims), photostability study, and water resistance data where applicable. This documentation is used for regulatory submissions in the EU (CPNP), India (CDSCO), and the US.

Can you manufacture tinted sunscreen for different skin tones?

Yes. Our tinted sunscreen range includes SPF 35 Tinted Moisturizer and Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30++ in multiple shade options. For private label clients, we offer custom tint matching to specific target skin tone markets — including darker South Asian and Middle Eastern skin tones that standard Western tints often miss.

What is the MOQ for private label sunscreen?

MOQs for private label sunscreen typically start at 500–1,000 units per SKU for standard formulations from our portfolio. Custom formulations may require a higher initial run (typically 2,000+ units) to cover development costs. We can structure commercial arrangements to support growing brands with tiered pricing from launch to scale.

India's sun care manufacturing advantage

India has emerged as one of the most cost-competitive and technically capable hubs for sunscreen contract manufacturing. The combination of strong cosmetic chemistry expertise, GMP-certified infrastructure, competitive raw material access, and deep export capability makes India the preferred sourcing destination for private label sun care brands across the EU, UK, US, and Southeast Asia.

AG Organica is a Government-recognised Star Export House operating from Noida — strategically positioned for logistics to all major international freight hubs. We ship to 50+ countries with experience handling the regulatory documentation requirements of each major market.

Sun care regulatory landscape

Sunscreens are among the most heavily regulated cosmetic product categories globally. In the EU they are classified as cosmetics under Regulation EC 1223/2009. In the US they are classified as OTC drugs under FDA monograph. In India they fall under Schedule S of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.

Our regulatory documentation package for each formulation includes: SPF test report, UVAPF test data, stability study, INCI ingredient list, safety assessment, CPNP-ready PIF, and BIS compliance notes for Indian market. For US export, we provide FDA facility registration and monograph compliance confirmation.
