Ingredient Overview

Why Azelaic Acid Is the Active Ingredient B2B Buyers Are Moving Toward

Azelaic Acid (nonanedioic acid) is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid derived from wheat, barley and rye — and increasingly synthesized for cosmetic-grade purity. It simultaneously targets acne, uneven skin tone and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making it one of the few actives that satisfies a full concern cluster in a single formula.

Dermatologist-endorsed for sensitive, rosacea-prone and Fitzpatrick Type III–VI skin types, it has seen consistent demand growth among clinical skincare lines, D2C brands and pharma-adjacent cosmetics. Our manufacturing process preserves stability at pH 3.5–4.5 across water-based and emulsion formats.

  • Multi-Concern Efficacy

Addresses acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea redness and keratinisation in a single active — broadens the claim narrative for your product.

  • Sensitive-Skin Safe

Non-photosensitising and tolerated through pregnancy — unlike many prescription alternatives. Opens retail channels that retinoids and higher-strength AHAs cannot.

  • Stable Across Formats

Formulatable as a serum, gel, cream, toner or foam — pH stability maintained during our quality checks at each batch stage.

Formulation Guide

Choosing the Right Azelaic Acid Concentration for Your Product

Every concentration level suits a different concern, channel and regulatory environment. Use the guide below to match your brand's positioning to the right formulation tier, then tell us in the quote form.

5% Azelaic Acid — Everyday Maintenance

The gentlest tier, suitable for daily-use cosmetics and over-the-counter positioning across most markets. Strong tolerance profile — appropriate for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin, and for brands targeting a mainstream beauty channel rather than a clinical one.

Mild Acne / Comedone PreventionExcellent fit
Rosacea Redness ReductionExcellent fit
Early HyperpigmentationModerate
Post-Inflammatory MarksModerate
Sensitive / Pregnancy-Safe RangeExcellent fit
At 5%, regulatory classification is OTC cosmetic across EU, UK, US and most GCC markets — no prescription pathway needed.

10% Azelaic Acid — Targeted Treatment

20% Azelaic Acid — Prescription-Equivalent

The maximum effective cosmetic concentration, matching the strength of approved prescription formulations (Finacea® 15%, Azelex® 20%). Manufacturing at this level requires strict QC protocols and may require pharmaceutical-grade documentation depending on the target market. AG Organica supports pharma and medical-grade cosmetic brands at this tier.

Common Questions

FAQ — Azelaic Acid Manufacturing

Can't find what you need? Send us a message and we'll respond within two business days.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for Azelaic Acid products?
MOQs vary by service model. White label and private label orders can begin at a lower threshold than full OEM/ODM or contract manufacturing runs. Share your target volume in the quote form and we will confirm the MOQ tier that applies — we do accommodate startup-scale orders.
Can I combine Azelaic Acid with other actives like Niacinamide or Retinol?
Yes — Azelaic Acid layers well with Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides and Peptides at appropriate pH. Retinol combinations are possible but require sequenced formulation to maintain stability. Our chemists will map compatible combinations against your brief in the custom formulation process. Salicylic Acid combinations require additional pH management.
Is 20% Azelaic Acid allowed OTC in my target market?
Regulatory classification differs by region. In the EU, formulations above 15% may require pharmaceutical notification. In the US, concentrations up to 20% exist as OTC in some product classes but are commonly supplied prescription-only by dermatologists. GCC, UK and ASEAN markets each have separate thresholds. We provide MSDS, CoA and stability documentation to support your regulatory filing — and can refer you to our regulatory consultant partners for a specific-market assessment.
How long does formulation and sample production take?
For white label, samples from existing formulations can be dispatched within 7–10 working days. For custom formulation, the initial sample round typically takes 3–4 weeks from brief sign-off, with subsequent revision rounds at 1–2 weeks each. Production scheduling begins after sample approval and commercial terms are agreed.
Do you provide CoA, MSDS and stability testing documentation?
Yes. Every production batch is supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA). MSDS and safety data sheets are available for all formulations. Accelerated stability testing (ICH zones I–IV) can be arranged for cosmeceutical or pharma-adjacent submissions. Documentation language and format can be adapted for EU, US, GCC or ASEAN regulatory filing requirements.
Can you handle export labelling and shipping to our country?
Yes. As a government-recognised Star Export House, we ship to 50+ countries. We manage export documentation, HS code classification, CIQ compliance where required, and can arrange freight forwarding on an Ex-Works, FOB or CIF basis depending on your preference. Country-specific labelling adaptation (language, INCI list format, regulatory text) is handled as part of the order.
