What is COVID-19 & What Precautions Should be Taken ?

Corona virus (COVID-19) is a disease that is caused by the recently discovered coronavirus. The infected person will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness & recover without requiring special treatment. Old people or those are suffering from the diseases like cardiovascular, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more prone to this disease.

This coronavirus can survive for hours or some days on some surfaces. If you touch contaminated surface & then touching the face & infect you. It can be detected on plastic or stainless steel or cardboard after 72 hours.

The best way to prevent & slow the transmission is that you should be well informed about the COVID-19; how it spreads. You can protect yourself & others by washing your hands or sanitizing & not touching your face.

This virus spreads through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person cough.

Recently there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. World Health Organization (WHO) is continuously providing information about the clinical researches.

How COVID-19 spreads?

COVID-19 spreads from person to person through droplets of coughs or sneezes. It is detected all over the world & is known as pandemic.

The symptoms of COVID-19 take 14 days to show up.


COVID-19 affects people in different ways. It is a respiratory disease & most infected people develop mild to moderate symptoms:

  6. Sore throat

and some report diarrhea, nausea or a runny nose.

  • Maintain 1-meter or 6 feet distance with the person who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Cover your mouth & nose when sneezing or coughing.
  • Stay home if you are unwell.
  • Don’t smoke as it weakens the lungs.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel & stay away from large groups of people.
  • Maintain good hygiene.
  • Healthy people do not need to wear a mask unless you are taking care of sick.
  • Use sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth especially with unwashed hands
  • Wash your hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds:
  • After touching public places, door handles, elevator, etc.
  • After using bathroom
  • Before preparing food
